Memorial of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Priest and Doctor of the Church

Date: January, 28

Thomas Aquinas is the preeminent spokesman of the Catholic tradition of reason and of divine revelation. He is one of the great teachers of the medieval Catholic Church, honored with the titles Doctor of the Church and Angelic Doctor.

His greatest contribution to the Catholic Church is his writings. The unity, harmony, and continuity of faith and reason, of revealed and natural human knowledge, pervades his writings.

  • “The person who truly understands love could love anyone.”
  • “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”
  • “If you are looking for the way by which you should go, take Christ, because he himself is the way.”
  • “Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. Amen.”

-Saint Thomas Aquinas

PRAYER:

Saint Thomas, God revealed Himself to you through your interior life of prayer from an early age. You listened to His voice, pondered all that He revealed, and used your natural gifts to share these truths with the Church.

Please pray for me, that I may also open my mind to the many truths that God wants to speak to me so that the Truth Himself will become the center of my mission in life. Saint Thomas, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You.
