The Guadalupe Missionaries (the Guadalupe Fathers) is a Catholic missionary institute founded in Mexico in 1949 by the Episcopal Conference of Mexican Bishops under the leading vision of Bishop Alonso Manuel Escalante. The official name is: “Instituto de Santa Maria de Guadalupe para las Misiones Extranjeras” (Institute of Saint Mary of Guadalupe for the Foreign Missions). Their primary mission is to spread the Gospel through the formation of agents of evangelization and service to the communities in situations of vulnerability worldwide.

Rooted in the charism of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas, the Missionaries of Guadalupe (MG) are also dedicated to evangelize through pastoral care, interreligious dialogue and social transformation, particularly in regions facing poverty, conflict, and marginalization.

Guided by the principles of faith, service, and intercultural dialogue, the Guadalupe Missionaries have established missions in various countries in Africa (Angola, Kenya, Mozambique and Tunisia), Asia (Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia), Latin America (Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Guatamala) and USA. Their work includes building and supporting parishes and marginalized groups, promoting education, formation of catechists and agents of evangelization, empowerment of African men and women, fostering interfaith dialogue, and advocating for social justice and peace.
It was in 1965 when the Guadalupe Missionaries officially began their pastoral activities in the Diocese of Kisumu, Kenya. This was through an official invitation by the late Eminence Servant of God, Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga(+), who had a special devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe; to come and work in Kenya. On 21st February 1966, Fr. Emerenciano Rodriguez(+) became the first Guadalupe Parish Priest of Amukura Mission.
In Kenya, the Guadalupe Fathers continue to serve the spiritual and social needs of the people. Inspired by the compassionate presence of Mother Mary, they remain committed to their missionary calling, bringing the light of Christ to diverse communities across the world.
