This outstation was founded by the community of Saint Andrew in 1983 under the leadership of Chairman Peter Masai. At that time, there were three communities in Makina – Makina DO, Makina Market, and Makina Makongeni. In 1984, under the guidance of Father Roman Orta MG these three communities were given the names of Saints as follows; Saint Andrew, Saint Bartholomew, and Saint Thomas consecutively.
Between 1984 and 1985, the number of community members of Saint Thomas decreased to the extent that many members moved to SCC of Saint Andrew and Saint Charles Lwanga Laini Saba. In 1985, the community of Saint Thomas was revived with 15 members, including James Gichuru as acting chairman, Francis Ambani as his assistant, Erick Nziya as the secretary, Ms. Sabina Mukasia as his assistant, Ms. Henrieta Chisenzi, along with the late Mrs. Dorcas Wanjiru who was married to a Muslim.
In 1988, the late Mrs. Dorcas Wanjiru, out of her love, blessings and healing she received from Mother Mary, donated this part of land where the church of St. Thomas is.
The construction of the outsation began in 1990 and was formalized by Father Sergio Espinosa. In 1991, the first leadership was formed and Mr. James Gichuru became the chairman.
In 1994, it was decided that the name of Saint Thomas should remain for the outstation.
